Cancer Awareness Month officially kicked off in October and massage therapy is now a part of this awareness!
Massage therapy is recognized by cancer patients as a comforting, nurturing and supportive process of their treatment. Oncology massage can relax the patient in the midst of cancer treatments, relieves nausea, pain and peripheral neuropathy. Other great benefits and research have recently published the biological changes that include the increase in oxytocin (hormone associated with contentment), an increase in white blood cells and a decrease in cortisol levels (aka stress hormone).
If you are interested in Oncology Massage, be sure your therapist has appropriate knowledge and training to safely and effectively benefit you during this time of treatment.
